Van Pelt, Giants shutout Skins

Linebacker Brad Van Pelt had four of his team's eight sacks and the New York Giants' defense held the Washington Redskins to 37 yards in a 24-0 win.

New York was able to control the clock against Washington, holding the ball for more than 37 minutes. 

Larry Csonka, who led the Giants with 70 yards rushing, scored the game's first TD on a third-and-goal run from 5 yards out. 

The other two New York scores came on big plays: A 79-yard punt return by Billy Hammond and a 58 TD pass from Joe Pisarcik to Jimmy Robinson. The TD pass was a 4th-and-2 flat pass call that fooled the Redskins' defense. 

Redskins quarterback Billy Kilmer was under assault in the first half. Kilmer, who was once a nifty running quarterback but is no longer, suffered under constant pressure. The more nimble Joe Theismann replaced Kilmer in the second half and fared no better.
